Digital Media

A tax credit for companies that educate and entertain

Twenty years ago, the dawn of the internet era signalled the largest shift in the way we’re influenced by media since the advent of the printing press. Today, Canadian firms are building applications and experiences that educate and entertain us on devices we carry in our pockets. Our Government would like to ensure you’re getting paid for your work.

Did You Know

Several Canadian provinces offer digital media tax credits. These include Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, and P.E.I. Each have their own distinct rules and regulations. A product that is eligible in one province may not be eligible in another, or may have a different tax credit rate.

Tips for Innovators

Offices in more than one province; co-productions with other other firms; multiple associated companies - all these factors can make a digital media claim more complex, but not impossible. A general rule of thumb: your company's Ontario-based T4'd employees and independent contractors must perform the majority of work on an eligible product.

BeneFACT has been really helpful helping us identify projects we weren't even sure would qualify....[and] have helped maximize our claims year after year.
